Bowood is a spectacular place, so we were guaranteed to have a great day out. However, the sunshine coming out after the two hours of torrential rain threatening to spoil our day and the great company made it an absolutely wonderful day out.
Hidden in the rolling hills of Wiltshire, the Bowood estate boasts one of the best adventure playgrounds in the country. A life-size pirate ship complete with rigging and a crows nest as well as a ‘space dive’ which featured giant slides aptly called the ‘slide of death’, chutes, trampolines and high-level rope walks. The kids were let loose while the parents caught up on the latest news and got acquainted with new friends.
We sat down to a picnic lunch, and then we played some ‘break the ice games’ with the kids, including some acting games led by our very own theatre maestro Paula Garfield.
We went for a lovely walk by the glorious lake and went to the caves, which was quite spooky – needless to say the kids loved walking into pitch darkness! We all came out to a view of a beautiful waterfall, and sat down in one of the caves to have some snacks before making our way to a restaurant in the nearest town to have some wine and dinner before heading off home.
It was a lovely day to see the children playing with each other so effortlessly, and for the parents to get together and chat knowing that they had so many things in common to talk about.
Thank you to the eight families, to came along, especially those families who came from afar.
We hope to have many more of these events in the upcoming year!
