Report on the first West Midlands regional DPDC get together

The West Midlands Deaf Parents Deaf Children had their first meeting at the Deaf Cultural Centre in Birmingham sponsored by BID Services. 8 families attended and made the afternoon a success.

Parents had the chance to discuss various topics spanning from education and audiological issues to access to after school activities, and plan future events while our children had the opportunity to get to know each other and participate in activities.

Four volunteers helped with the children’s activities which included Wii sports, creating Olympic Torches, storytelling, practising the Olympic Torch Relay and completing Olympic worksheets in preparation for the evening.

Afterwards, some of us lined the streets to see the Olympic Torch which was a fabulous way to end an inspiring afternoon.

We would like to express our thanks to our sponsors; BID Services and Street Games, also to our lovely volunteers who made the workshop possible by entertaining our children.
